Subtly staged lighting for a sensitive exhibition

The former Benedictine abbey in Brauweiler, now a memorial site run by the Rhineland Regional Council, has a permanent exhibition documenting the history of the place as a prison during the Nazi era and the post-war period. The exhibition rooms in the historic monastery building placed high demands on the lighting: it had to respect the sensitive nature of the subject matter, aid spatial orientation and, at the same time, illuminate the exhibition precisely and evenly. Systems from Hoffmeister were chosen to realise the appropriate lighting concept.

Functional and understated lighting concept

The form.h44 profile system was used, equipped with control.x conductor rails and gin.o 2 spotlights. This combination enables flexible, precise and glare-free illumination of the exhibition rooms. The spotlights can be precisely aligned and, with their clear light distribution, ensure a balance between functionality and atmosphere. Hoffmeister’s solution thus offers aesthetically unobtrusive but effective lighting that respectfully highlights the historical context of the Brauweiler Memorial.
