Customised lighting solution for sacred architecture
St. Michael’s Church in the centre of Erfurt is one of the city’s most important architectural monuments and dates back to the 12th century. Today, it serves both as a sacred space and as a venue for concerts, readings and cultural events. This versatile use placed special demands on the lighting: a lighting concept was required that respected the historic architecture while also enabling flexible, atmospheric illumination for different occasions.
Hoffmeister lighting provided a solution that meets both the architectural requirements and the diverse range of possible uses.
Harmonious lighting concept with car.a pendant lights
Two versions of the car.a pendant luminaire were used. The classic version provides uniform, glare-free general lighting for the nave and emphasises the architectural lines of the space. To complement this, pendant luminaires with additional accent lighting were installed to highlight specific walls and vaulted surfaces, creating more depth and atmosphere. Both versions impress with their clear design, high light quality and energy efficiency. Together, they contribute to a harmonious lighting atmosphere that underlines the character of St Michael’s Church while supporting its diverse range of uses.
