Tower Lighting
Tower Lighting
Tower lighting – setting the scene for high point buildings in a targeted manner
Towers dominate the cityscape and landscape – because of their height when they stand alone or as part of an impressive and significant overall architectural concept. The special thing about tower buildings is their height with a mostly small horizontal extension. This is precisely what makes lighting a real challenge. Optimal tower lighting with suitable lighting technology is able to tackle this demanding task and implement it as reliably as effectively.

Towers – architectural focal points of various kinds
Towers exist in many different architectural contexts. In terms of effective lighting, these different types of tower buildings play a role:
— church towers
— town hall towers
— towers of castles or palaces
— towers in connection with historical town fortifications
— other clock towers
— industrial towers, e.g. for conveyor technology
— scientific towers such as observatories and control rooms
— tower constructions of bridges and other traffic structures
With this variety of tower constructions, safety-related issues must also be considered in individual cases. Entry lanes of commercial or small airports are just as important as the general protection of irregular air traffic by police and emergency services. However, this form of identification is implemented via special markings and not via classic tower lighting, so this aspect does not play a central role for us as a luminaire manufacturer.

Deliberate staging through targeted light
No matter what function a tower has, it often has the potential for a lighting upgrade. Even mundane industrial towers are usually built with a certain architectural ambition, as they can be seen from afar, at least in daylight, due to their height. Similar to the lighting of bridges, towers should also be included in the cityscape or townscape in the dark. To ensure that they are perceived appropriately and stylishly, the lighting technology must be tailored both to the structure and to the desired effect in terms of the overall cityscape.

The special feature of tower lighting – expanse instead of area, focus instead of background
For their exterior lighting, most buildings have a combination of large, planar areas and targeted point accents, e.g. the entrance or an architectural feature. In the case of towers, this situation is similar but with one notable difference: instead of wide-area lighting, a kind of linear lighting needs to be used because although towers naturally also have a wall surface, this is typically not horizontal but strongly vertical. The associated lighting must therefore be clearly defined and limited in its horizontal extension on the one hand, and on the other hand, precise lighting technology is required at height in order to keep the technical effort and thus also the costs manageable.
Tower lighting from Sill – powerful floodlights for every tower construction
The Hoffmeister luminaire portfolio also offers suitable products for the special features of tower lighting. And for every task around the tower building, so that both wide-area and accent lighting can be implemented in a targeted and precise manner.
Projectors – high light output for tower illumination
Towers are landmarks and are visible from afar in daylight. In darkness, therefore, powerful luminaires such as the Series 14 or 49 projector are used. Due to the height, the very precise narrow-beam versions with a beam angle of only 5° are used here. This lighting technology directs the light specifically and without scattering losses over the corresponding heights of the tower body. The projector meet all criteria for high-quality lighting technology and offer the options of different light colours or coloured illumination using RGBW technology.
Putting clocks, pictures and other details in the right light with projectors
Certain tower sections, special details, viewing platforms and possibly transmission facilities require the smaller luminaire versions of the 14 and 49 series. Depending on the architecture, the linear led.modular is also used here. These smaller luminaires have to adapt to the ambient conditions both in terms of lighting technology and mechanically. Thanks to the different beam angles, the available light colours and the optional accessories, the luminaires fulfil their tasks to perfection.
Line lighting – a bright base creates lightness
led.modular is the name of our linear luminaire in construction widths from 231 to a maximum of 961 mm. The light output varies from 400 to 9450 lumens. Whether tower bases or individual linear details, our luminaires with two different light colours in 3000K and 4000K offer an individual option for linear lighting according to requirements. Here, too, a selectable beam angle of 5° up to 45° is convincing and enables coverage of wide areas even with small-format linear luminaires, provided the required distance is given depending on the light angle and exposure area width.
LED tower lighting – inconspicuous, powerful, economical
All Hoffmeister luminaires that come into question for tower lighting rely on contemporary LED technology in combination with protection that conforms to outdoor areas and has a high IP65 protection rating. By opting for LED technology, we can design our luminaires so small that they do not interfere with the perception of the actual tower and still provide the required light output. Added to this is the low energy consumption, which enables a comprehensive and at the same time economical lighting concept without limiting performance. This takes into account the requirements of modern building services in terms of efficiency and sustainability and adds another pillar to contemporary building equipment.
