Exhibition in new splendour

Hessian State Museum Darmstadt reopens after extensive refurbishment

At the end of 2014, the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt reopened its doors to the public. The museum had been closed for the past seven years and was extensively renovated during this time. The original main building was constructed between 1897 and 1902 according to plans by the renowned Berlin architect Alfred Messel and was opened in 1906.

For the exhibition planning, the Schiel Projektgesellschaft from Berlin developed an overall concept adapted to the new architecture. The breadth and variety of the Landesmuseum’s collections required specific presentations tailored to each collection.
Presenting the high-quality exhibits to the public in an adequate manner required a high-quality lighting solution.

In the exhibition areas, the lighting designers relied on Hoffmeister spotlights from the gin.o series. Five different beam angles and the possibility of combining them with numerous accessory elements such as barges, louvres and various light-directing optics offered a wide scope for planning and guaranteed optimal results in different scenarios. With a light colour of 2700K, the luminaires achieve a colour rendering index of > 90, which ensures a natural-looking impression when viewing the exhibits.
If the spotlights are combined with the current Hoffmeister control.x track, lighting scenes can be conveniently controlled and dimmed, e.g. via the DALI interface.
