Bridge lighting – effective illumination of traffic structures
Bridges are undisputedly the most common traffic structures in connection with footpaths, roads or even rail connections. Due to their size and, moreover, their often exposed location, many of these structures are suitable for being effectively staged at night. Whether it’s a dizzying height, an outstanding span or a spectacular construction – with the right lighting, the functional traffic structure becomes an eye-catcher. The bridge as a landscape and cultural monument
Whether a spectacular new building or a historically significant structure – bridges are visible from afar. Municipalities and entire districts regularly turn necessity into a virtue and stage the indispensable traffic structures so that they are not simply present, but also score points in terms of design. Lighting technology plays a particularly important role here. Spectacular illumination is able to emphasise even simple constructions in such a way that the perception is positive and the sometimes unnoticed strengths of the structure are skilfully placed in the centre.
Road safety – Using bridges safely
The purpose is always the focus of interest for bridges. For the lighting technology, this means that it must not interfere with or hinder the function, for example through glare effects of spotlights. In addition, there is the need for functional lighting of traffic routes, including in the area of pedestrian use. Footpaths are illuminated at least in built-up areas and are also additionally illuminated on bridges. In this way, the limited space available can be seen from afar and danger spots, whether caused by vehicle traffic or by people on the bridge, can be perceived at an early stage. Due to the lack of avoidance possibilities, footpaths on bridges have a certain risk of nuisance or even threats. A comprehensive illumination of the traffic area helps the early detection and avoidance of this hazard.
Underlighting bridges – preventing unwanted uses
Just like the highly visible sides and intensively used surface of a bridge, there is of course always an underside. Because of the more difficult visibility and the existing protection from wind and weather, areas under bridges often appear very dark and uninviting. If the area under the bridge is comprehensively illuminated and thus visible, this part becomes much more attractive. Thus, the lighting underneath bridges on the one hand also serves to set the scene, but to a large extent it primarily serves to increase safety.
Bridge lighting – with powerful lighting technology from Hoffmeister
As traffic structures, bridges clearly differ from the multitude of different buildings that rely on Hoffmeister lighting technology for both interior and exterior lighting. Projectors – illuminate, stage, secure
The requirements for the floodlight projectors to be used are as varied as the dimensions of the traffic structures.
Architectural elements such as pylons and supporting cables are to be particularly emphasised. Precise, narrow-beam spotlights are used that direct the light along the pylons or suspension cables in a targeted manner and without scattering losses. The projectors of the 02, 14 and 49 series fulfil all criteria for high-quality lighting technologies and offer the options of different light colours and coloured illumination using RGBW technology (02 and 14).
Post-top luminaires – glare-free illumination of streets and pavements
Bridges are not an end in themselves of their construction, but bearers of traffic routes. Footpaths and traffic routes require continuous lighting for safe use. This is where our LED plane projectors of the 150 series are convincing. Illuminated from above by pole-mounting, traffic routes become safer without impairing flowing vehicle and pedestrian traffic by unintentional glare effects. Two selectable light colours with 3000 or 4000 Kelvin offer a demand-oriented choice from the individual luminaires of this series.
Modern lighting technology with LED – safe and energy-efficient
Bridges are usually illuminated permanently, i.e. from sunset to sunrise. Precisely because of this long period of use of the luminaires, economical lighting technology is of great importance. Our luminaires use modern LED technology that offers maximum light output with minimum energy input. In addition, there are further advantages of this modern technology, such as the particularly small dimensions of the luminaires and the many possibilities for protection against water, dust and dirt.
