Crane lighting – for more safety at work

Cranes have become indispensable in many areas of the modern working world. As a means of facilitating work, they have a comprehensive complexity and bring with them many advantages, but also challenges. The technical possibilities of a crane, for example, can only be used safely if appropriate lighting is available. Only then is it possible to work safely and reliably with the crane.

Cranes – temporary tool or permanent work equipment

The range of cranes extends from simple lifting aids to highly complex constructions that are partially automated and able to automatically perform weight calculations, load assumptions and other tasks during the lifting process. The demand on the lighting always remains the same. Although the complexity varies depending on the crane itself, the tasks of the light are always the same.

Crane lighting – clear tasks for technical use

In contrast to countless other areas of application for lighting technology, crane lighting is almost exclusively of technical importance. Although manufacturers sometimes also pursue aesthetic or advertising goals when it comes to lighting, these are only of secondary relevance, if at all. The main task of crane lighting is to enable, facilitate and safeguard work with the lifting device and its surroundings and to design it in such a way that it complies with the technical regulations on occupational safety.

See more – work more effectively

Wherever heavy equipment is used, vision, among other things, is of elementary importance. This is especially true when work is also carried out in the third dimension by means of a crane. Good visibility of all working areas ensures that the task is carried out quickly and in a targeted manner. The more precise the lighting, the more efficient the work process. Due to its height, the crane in particular is ideal for illuminating its immediate surroundings without the need for additional lighting masts or other mounting options. In this way, effect and benefit are optimised with reduced effort. Work can be carried out precisely and quickly at dusk and even on night construction sites with virtually no shadowing.

Light brings safety – for people and materials

Besides a more efficient workflow, the issue of light is also of great importance for safety. Areas that are not visible or dark pose dangers, be it through tripping hazards, unrecognisable objects or the fact of not being seen oneself. When a crane is setting down a load, it is essential that the working area is clearly visible, otherwise people can be injured or, in the worst case, killed. Likewise, there is a risk of damage to machinery or materials provided by setting down containers or other loads. Crane lighting is thus the key to safe handling of moving loads.

Hoffmeister crane lighting – powerful and safe

Our luminaires allow wide-area illumination with high luminosity. They thus offer exactly the performance data required for crane lighting. With only a few luminaire positions, ideal illumination for the working area of the crane and its surroundings is possible. High light angles and flexible light fields create intensive illumination on the one hand, but at the same time avoid glare and thus offer even more safety at work.

Projectors – high illuminance levels in the working area

Our 02, 14 and 49 series floodlight projectors are predestined for use on and around the crane.
The floodlights and their tuned lenses for light control – narrow-beam, wide-beam and asymmetric – allow the appropriate illuminance to be achieved, according to the height of the installation or the zone to be illuminated, from the ramps to the bilges.

Colour temperatures of 3000 to 5700 Kelvin also bring important advantages here. Warm white light colours reduce the attraction of insects and are also advantageous in hazy, foggy weather.
A light with a high white component, on the other hand, is perceived as particularly bright and colour-neutral, which can make the completion of specific tasks easier and more precise.

Plane projectors – illuminate according to need and clearly delineated

The Hoffmeister plane projectors of the 150-154 and 155 series are convincing both inside and out. Luminous intensities of up to 39300 lumens from a power input of only 240 watts enable maximum lighting effects with manageable energy requirements. This means that particularly large work areas, from storage areas to construction sites, can be effectively illuminated. The swivelling mounting bracket allows particularly flexible mounting either on the mast attachment or directly on the crane. In addition, the mounting arm of the 150-154 series offers further flexibility and additional versatility in use around the crane.

Luminaire technology that meets requirements – according to current technical standards

The luminaires installed on cranes are exposed to extreme conditions: salt water environments, vibrations, humidity and wave action. The selected materials of the products are resistant to salt water: stainless steel V4A and aluminium with low copper content (aluminium ALSI12), which are naturally corrosion-resistant. This significantly increases the life expectancy of our luminaires.

LED technology – the modern way of lighting technology

Only the use of modern LED technology combines the required high light output with the desired low energy consumption. Maximum values in terms of luminous efficacy meet energy consumption values that would be unattainable without LED technology. Added to this are the small dimensions of the luminous LED elements. Almost invisible, our spotlights can be positioned on the crane in such a way that they do not hinder the actual work in the slightest. In many respects, this makes Hoffmeister luminaires the tool of choice when it comes to crane lighting thanks to modern lighting technology.
